Food trucks and foodies will find no other food fest quite like the 2nd annual Spirit of Texas Festival, presented by H-E-B’s Creamy Creations. The festival will be held March 23-25 at Wolf Pen Creek Park in College Station, Texas. Admission to the Fest is free.
On Sunday, March 25 during the Spirit Brunch, foodies can delight their taste buds by trying five offerings for $25. Tickets are now available at https://sotxfest.com/vip-spirit-brunch/. Then the food-lover’s paradise will culminate in a food truck competition of Texas-sized proportions – the Curbside Smackdown. With competitors coming from far and wide, food trucks will put their best dishes forward to compete for $11,000 in prize money. Registration for food trucks is now open.
Festival organizers expect 30 food trucks to share their sweet and savory dishes with festival goers and then competing in the Curbside Smackdown. Among them will be Cousins Maine Lobster The Maine-born and raised cousins, Jim Tselikis and Sabin Lomac, took America by storm following their successful pitch to the business moguls of Shark Tank in 2012.
However, Cousins Maine Lobster will have stiff competition, including Over the Plate, The Big Squeeze, Daiquiri Express, and fan-favorite Korean Fusion truck, Oh My Gogi! “I had been trying to track down Oh My Gogi after hearing about it from friends. When I saw the truck was coming to me, I was so excited to finally try it!” said Karyn Ho, a past festival goer and proud foodie. “Food trucks provide a more casual, fun way to experience food. I am looking forward to trying as many trucks as I can at this year’s festival. It is such a unique way to find new favorite eats and connect with other food lovers!”
Although foodies and trucks alike are coming from around the country – from Houston to Shreveport – many contenders are native to the Brazos Valley. Donut Darlin’, a mini donut business, has become a crowd favorite, catering events, weddings, open houses and more. “We are excited to be hosting food trucks and foodies from across Texas,” said Cynthia Caronna, the festival’s executive director. “The Spirit of Texas Festival is truly about bringing people together whether that be through music, shopping, or food! From donuts to lobster to barbecue, we are ready to host a wide variety of trucks all foodies are sure to love!”
The festival, celebrating all things Texas, offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy diverse musical performances, a BBQ cook-off, IDEA Village educational pods geared to students of all ages, a Trading VIllage, a performance area for future stars of Texas and the Pony Hop Rodeo.
The Spirit of Texas Festival is supporting nonprofits whose work affect the lives of youth: the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Brazos Valley; Von’s Vision (founded by Texas A&M football legend Von Miller); K9s4Kids; and Mobility Worldwide.
