The brewers at Blackwater Draw went to Fort Collins recently and brewed up a collaboration beer with Odell! They made a Kentucky Common beer, a unique an almost lost style of beer. To celebrate the brew, they’re holding a Collaboration Beer Pub Crawl w/ Odell Brewing Co. on November 22.
This style of beer was very popular in Kentucky from about 1850 to Prohibition and actually consisted of 80% of the beer sales during that time. After Prohibition the big beer companies brewed primarily lagers and this styel of beer was all but lost.
Kentucky Common is considered a dark cream ale and was brewed with about 35% flaked corn to stay true to the similarities of a bourbon mash. Small amounts of dark roasted malts were used to add a light roast flavor and color.
