Hopdoddy Burger Bar will soon be opening their newest location in College Station’s Century Square. While in Downtown Austin tonight, I decided to pay a visit to their oldest location, the original Hopdoddy on S. Congress Ave. to give my fellow 979-ers a “restaurant preview” of the burger greatness that’s about to come to Aggieland.
The burgers feature meat ground in-house, fresh baked buns, and top notch toppings. The menu includes regular beef burgers along with Bison and lighter options like Turkey and Ahi Tuna. Their beef comes from HUMANELY RAISED COWS, never, ever given growth hormones or antibiotics.
I had the El Diablo burger which features a patty of Angus beef, Tillamook pepper jack, caramelized onions, habanero and serrano chiles, salsa roja, chipotle mayo, red leaf lettuce, and beefsteak tomato. It was hot, but mmmmm good!
The burgers are prepared medium, with a little pink still showing in the middle of the patty. This is how a burger should be cooked, and is a testimony to their confidence in their product. The confidence was not unwarranted. It was a DANG good burger.
Though I did not sample any, their fries are hand cut from Kennebec potatoes, the same kind In-N-Out uses.
They also make shakes and have a full bar featuring cocktails and beer.
Hopdoddy looks to be a great addition to the B/CS restaurant community. It’s moderately priced and the burgers are oh sh good!
